2025 Westchester Kitchen Trends
What's trending in luxury Westchester kitchens? From warm wood tones to smart storage and mixed metal finishes.
Every year, the design priorities that drive Westchester kitchen renovations shift — sometimes subtly, sometimes dramatically. As we move into 2025, several clear themes are emerging in the projects we're designing across Chappaqua, Scarsdale, Rye, and Bedford. Here's what's resonating most with homeowners right now.
Warm Wood Tones Are Replacing All-White
The all-white kitchen had a remarkable run, but in 2025 we're seeing a clear shift toward warmth. Natural wood tones — white oak, walnut, and cerused oak — are appearing either as island bases, lower cabinet faces, or open-shelf accents. The appeal is tactile as well as visual: wood adds texture and life that painted cabinetry simply can't replicate. We're pairing these wood tones with greige or warm white upper cabinets and natural stone counters to create balanced, layered palettes.
The winning combination this year: warm white uppers + white oak island + unlacquered brass hardware + quartzite or leathered granite countertop.
Mixed Metal Finishes Done Right
A few years ago, the rule was: pick one metal and stay consistent. That rule is gone. In 2025, mixing metals is not only accepted but encouraged — as long as the logic is intentional. The most common combination we're specifying is unlacquered brass for decorative hardware and fixtures, paired with matte black for functional elements like faucets and pot fillers. The key is limiting the palette to two metals and using them consistently throughout the space.
Concealed Appliances and Integrated Storage
Westchester kitchens are trending toward a cleaner, more curated look. That means refrigerators integrated behind cabinetry panels, dishwashers with matching door fronts, and microwave drawers tucked below counter level. Countertop appliance garages with tambour doors are also making a strong comeback. The goal is a kitchen that looks like a beautifully designed room first — and a highly functional workspace second.
Expanded Islands and Social Zones
If the kitchen is going to be the heart of the home, the island needs to be its centerpiece. In 2025, we're designing islands that do multiple jobs: prep area, seating zone, beverage station, and even a homework counter. Waterfall edges in quartz or quartzite remain popular for islands, adding visual weight that anchors the space. For larger homes, a second prep sink on the island is increasingly standard.
The Return of Color — Used Carefully
Deep forest greens, rich navies, and warm terracottas are showing up on islands and lower cabinets throughout Westchester. The key word is 'carefully' — color in a luxury kitchen works best when it's supported by natural materials, quality lighting, and a restrained palette elsewhere. We spend considerable time with clients choosing a color that will feel fresh in five years, not just in the magazine photoshoot.
